Thomas Müller’s career has been nothing short of special. But, not too long ago the 2010 World Cup Golden Boot winner found himself on the Bayern Munich bench behind former boss Niko Kovac. Müller became frustrated, and in late 2019, actually questioned his future with the club.
Fast forward to now, and it’s hard to believe there was ever a moment when Müller thought about anywhere else but Bavaria. Müller is once again in the best form of his career, at the age of 31, and has been revamped under the management of Hansi Flick. The German has 10 goals and nine assists already this season in the Bundesliga, the only player with more goal contributions in the Bundesliga is FIFA Men’s Player of the Year, Robert Lewandowski.
So how does Müller maintain his elite level of play? We may have found the answer. He plans to improve his already impressive season with a secret to his diet! The 2014 World Cup winner uses a daily ginger-turmeric shot as an immune booster, inspired by one of Germany’s top chefs and fellow Bavarian Alfons Schuhbeck, who is known as the “Ginger Pope.”
“When it comes to ginger in particular, there is quite a consensus that it’s a good idea. Ginger is powerfully antioxidant, antibacterial and has anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric has similar properties, I won’t say no,” Müller told TZ.
Staying healthy will be key in his ambitions of defending their Champions League title and whatever the German is doing seems to be working. Only time will tell if they have what it takes to defend their title. No Bayern Munich team has defended their Champions League title, but Müller believes it is time for that to change. We might have ginger doping to thank if that happens.
