Another win for Bayern, snapping out of their brief funk of two consecutive Bundesliga matches without a win.

After two consecutive matches without a win in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich emphatically defeated FC Köln 5-1 at the Allianz Arena on the club’s 121st birthday on the heels of their 4-1 win against Lazio in the Champions League. Braces from Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry as well as a goal from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting secured the three points for Hansi Flick and company as Ellyes Skhiri’s goal in the 49th minute proved to be nothing more than a consolation, albeit important at the time it was scored, having made it 2-1.

The occasion was marked by returns for both Gnabry and Thomas Muller (injury, coronavirus), both of whom came on as subs to great effect. Muller provided his assist for Lewandowski’s second goal just 14 seconds after entering the pitch, making his presence felt immediately. The brace from Gnabry later on and an assist from Lucas Hernandez saw that Flick’s subs collectively provided two goals and two assists, which made up the 4-point goal difference. While some of us might’ve been scratching our heads seeing Choupo-Moting start as a left winger, Flick got his changes spot on and it made all the difference in the world en route to the massively important three points.

Scoring summary:

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (18’), Robert Lewandowski (33’), Ellyes Skhiri (49’), Robert Lewandowski (65’), Serge Gnabry (82’, 86’)
