According to a report by Bild (via Der Tagesspiegel) the Munich public prosecutor’s office is investigating Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng on suspicion of willful assault against ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt. Earlier this month, the 25-year-old was found dead in her Berlin apartment. The pair had allegedly broken up shortly beforehand.

Per the report, an investigation had already begun 2019 after (now deleted) pictures were circulated on Instagram showing Lenhardt’s ruptured earlobe. The investigations were then temporarily discontinued in June 2020, but have now been reopened.

A spokeswoman for the Munich public prosecutor explained why the investigation had been discontinued, saying, “On the one hand, because the injured party Kasia L. had initially decided not to make any more incriminating statements. On the other hand, because the outcome of the already indicted proceedings was to be awaited.”

Meanwhile, media reports claimed that Kasia Lenhardt’s death was a possible suicide, but nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet. The Berlin Public Prosecutor General made the following announcement:

Death investigation for “Kasia” Lenhardt:

An autopsy at the Institute for Forensic Medicine at Charité Berlin did not reveal any evidence of third-party negligence.
