Bayern Munich II went to the former east Germany and took a point from 3.Liga leaders Dynamo Dresden on Wednesday. Despite conceding an early goal, Bayern II grabbed an equalizer off of a terrific free kick and relied on some heroics from goalkeeper Lukas Schneller to pick up their fourth point from Dresden in the 2020/21 campaign.

The big news for Bayern was that Demitri Oberlin and Torben Rhein got the start for Bayern II for the first time. Oberlin was brought in during the January transfer window and has Champions League experience. Rhein, a highly sought after youth product who was linked with with various moves away from Bayern over the last year, decided to extend his contract with the Bavarians. It’s a good day for Bayern II.

Christoph Daferner opened the scoring for Dresden in only the 8th minute after he headed home a corner kick from former Bayern II player Paul Will. After fighting back over the next hour, Bayern II were finally awarded with a goal when Maximilian Welzmüller banged home a free kick to secure a point.

The point moves Bayern II up into 11th place on 29 points; however, every team in the 3.Liga has played anywhere from 21 to 25 games, so it’s hard to really gauge where everybody stands at the moment.

Bayern II’s next game is Monday, March 1 when they travel to Waldhof Mannheim.
