Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic is obviously concerned with how many of his players have contracted COVID-19, but is confident that the club is taking every possible measure to keep the players safe on a day-to-day basis.
“I’m not a doctor and I can’t say how it happened,” said Salihamidzic of the latest cases of COVID-19, which included two vital players in Thomas Müller and Benjamin Pavard (as captured by Tz). “I can only say that we adhere to it very strictly and communicate with the health authorities every day. We cannot do more. It’s been like this for a year. You have to compliment the guys on how well they stick to it. In addition to the hygiene concept, we have ourselves tested every day and I don’t know what else we could do.”
Clearly, there is frustration and probably some feelings of helplessness. One thing is certain, though, no matter how much you try to protect yourself or your players from COVID-19, it is just too prevalent to avoid when traveling and competing on a regular basis.
In all, the following players tested positive at various points over the course of this season:
- Benjamin Pavard
- Thomas Müller
- Leon Goretzka
- Javi Martinez
- Joshua Zirkzee
- Niklas Süle
- Serge Gnabry (ultimately false positive)
For Bayern Munich’s sake, let’s hope the worst of this is over.
