As previously reported, Bayern Munich and Kingsley Coman have not reached an accord on a contract extension as of yet. With the Frenchman’s deal ending after the 2022/2023 season, Bayern Munich is still a little over a year away from really needing to get an extension done.
Manchester United, however, is circling and waiting for its opportunity to present Coman with a substantial offer. Sport Bild’s initial report (which was covered here), indicated that Manchester United and Manchester City might be eager to engage Coman in discussions. Moreover, the report indicated that a contract extension is “likely” on Bayern Munich’s agenda, so if the player is truly eager to move on, we should have a clear indication by this time next season.
Sky Sports, however, added more context to some areas of Sport Bild’s report and there was a key difference in some of the numbers being reported. Sport Bild indicated that Manchester United was prepared to offer Coman a salary of €8 million last summer. The future number — per Sky Sports — is significantly higher if true.
Regarding any talks between Bayern Munich and Coman’s camp:
No discussions have taken place between Bayern Munich and Coman in recent weeks, Sky Sports News has been told. However, Coman believes his next move will be to a top Premier League club.
The nature of Manchester United’s potential offer:
Kingsley Coman believes his immediate future is at Bayern Munich despite reports in Germany that Manchester United are preparing a staggering £260,000-a-week (€300,520 per week or €15.6 million per year) offer.
Per Salary Sport, Coman’s annual wage for next season is approximately £7,332,000 (€8.5 million). If true, Manchester United’s reported offer to Coman would almost double Coman’s salary.
It is important to remember that everything at this stage of the process is very preliminary and is all part of the negotiations game. Coman will not enter his “lame duck” period until approximately August of 2022. By then, Bayern Munich will surely know what Coman’s plans are.
Numerous outlets have picked up the combination of reports from Sport Bild and Sky — and various contexts are being applied to the situation. Above, we just attempted to breakdown both stories and what the meaning is for all parties involved.
The most important takeaway is that Coman at least sees his “immediate future” with Bayern Munich which would seemingly rule out a move for this upcoming summer transfer window.
