As reported by Sky Sports yesterday (and captured by Bavarian Football Works), Bayern Munich officially announced that defender Benjamin Pavard has tested positive for COVID-19.
Pavard is isolating at home and will be out of action for approximately 14 days. Bayern Munich did not offers many details on Pavard only that the 24-year-old Frenchman is doing “well”:
Benjamin Pavard, 24, has tested positive for the coronavirus. He is in quarantine at home. The defender is doing well.
Bayern Munich has dealt with several cases of coronavirus already this season and the timing of this case might be the most unfortunate at all given the timing. Pavard had really started to play well after some struggles and make a lot of progress in his game.
For Pavard, we can hope that he is asymptomatic or has mild effects, so that his recovery is not extensive. For some athletes worldwide, COVID-19 has been a terrible experience, while others experience next to nothing.

Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez are back from their own COVID-19 issues, but Thomas Müller is still sitting out due to mandatory quaratnine requirements. Regardless, hopefully Pavard can get healthy and regenerate quickly. His presence at right-back will be sorely missed.
Bouna Sarr, Niklas Süle, and Joshua Kimmich are the top contenders to fill-in for Pavard over the next two weeks.
