After months of speculation that linked Dayot Upamecano to several clubs across Europe, Bayern Munich finally confirmed the signing of the Frenchman last weekend. The RB Leipzig defender will join the world champions next season and would be an excellent addition to Bayern’s frail backline.

Considered one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, Upamecano will play a huge role in filling the holes in Bayern’s defence. It is indeed a great steal for the club but what does the transfer mean for the youngster? Abendzeitung took a quick look at what’s awaiting the 22-year-old in Munich.

Winning trophies has become more of a hobby for Bayern under Hansi Flick and a young talent like him, with lots of caliber and hopes, wanting to be a part of such a club is not a big surprise. And with the departure of David Alaba, who has decided to leave the club at the end of the season, a permanent spot in the starting XI has opened up for Upamecano.

Along with that, it is safe to say that the Frenchman will most definitely feel at home in Munich, where he’ll be joining half a dozen of his compatriots including Kingsley Coman, Corentin Tolisso and Benjamin Pavard. Moreover, he will get the desired amount of exposure under Flick — who is very well known for the way he nurtures young players.

From the player’s perspective, he is in for an exciting five years at Bayern. Although, the real question is, can he score a 59th minute goal which will win us a silverware?
