Bayern Munich is on a mission to get a lot of its core players nailed down with long-term contracts. Two of the key players to the Bavarians as a team — and as a club overall — are the midfield tandem of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
Per Sport Bild, Bayern Munich is seeking to extend both players to ensure they remain the team’s collective keystone in the midfield and with leadership for the foreseeable future.
At this stage, Goretzka, whose contract runs through the 2021/2022 season, is closer to putting his signature on a new deal per Sport Bild reporter Tobi Altschäffl as he has already engaged in initial discussions with the club:
Update #fcbayern: In addition to the attempt to extend with Goretzka (contract until 2022, next talks in May) there is a first approach and discussion regarding new contracts for Kimmich and Coman (both have contracts until 2023) @cfbayern

Sport Bild (print edition) also noted that Goretzka’s negotiations are further along at this stage than either Kingsley Coman (as we covered here) or Kimmich. In addition, Sport Bild is reporting that Kimmich would like a meeting with the Bayern Munich front office to hear about the club’s strategic direction before he enters a more serious phase of contract talks.
Kimmich’s deal runs through the 2022/2023 season.
