Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane got the start against Arminia Bielefeld and came away with a beautiful assist on a goal by midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

For Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick, Sane’s effort was solid despite a slow start. Flick specifically noted that Sane improved over the course of the game and was a big factor in the team being able to rally back and earn a draw.

“Leroy has outstanding qualities — he is an artist,” said Flick to Bild. “In the first half it wasn’t easy with the state of the pitch. His second half was a lot better. He contributed to our comeback. That makes me feel positive about him.”

It is no secret that Sane has not always caught Flick’s eye this season, but the manager has consistently been pumping him up and praising him anyway. That long-term plan to build Sane up could pay off now that Serge Gnabry and Douglas Costa are both out with injuries. Flick — and the team — need Sane now more than ever.
