Douglas Costa was not in the squad to face Arminia Bielefeld after suffering a foot injury in training. The Brazilian winger fractured a metatarsal in his right foot and is out for the “foreseeable future”, according to the club’s statement. Sky is reporting that Costa will be out for “several weeks”.
Costa has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Bayern to date this season.
Losing Costa for any significant period of time, when Serge Gnabry will also be out for some time, is a significant blow to Bayern’s depth in attack for the next month. Don’t forget, another Bayern wing option, Thomas Müller, is also out for the next couple of weeks due to testing positive for COVID.

It’s likely that Hansi Flick will rely on rolling out Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane game-after-game at the two winger positions until more options make themselves available. Jamal Musiala is an option out wide as is moving Alphonso Davies into the attack.
The injuries are stacking up for Bayern right now. Let’s hope the luck pendulum swings back in favor of the Bavarians.
