After Sunday’s news that Bayern Munich is set to sign Reading FC left-back Omar Richards, it appears that a move for Hertha Berlin defender Luca Netz is likely off-the-table.
Per a report from Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich does, indeed, have interest in the talented 17-year-old, but “concrete negotiations” have not yet taken place:
Update Luca #Netz: #FCBayern has been interested in him for a long time, but concrete negotiations have not yet taken place. A move to Munich is still a long way off, especially as #HerthaBSC have an option until 2023. Trend: He remains a Berliner! @SPORT1

While Plettenberg notes that a move to Bayern Munich is “a long way off”, it is difficult to imagine any transaction happening if the Richards news is true. The Bavarians would most likely not be in the market for a back-up left-back any time soon as Alphonso Davies is just 20-years-old and Richards is 23-years-old. Bayern Munich would appear to be set at that position for quite a while. In addition, Lucas Hernandez can also slot out to that position whenever needed as well.
Netz, meanwhile, has a contract with Hertha Berlin that could be stretched through the 2022/2023 season, which should provide him ample opportunities to develop in the Bundesliga; something the youngster might have trouble achieving in Bavaria given the depth at Bayern Munich.
