Per a report from kicker that was captured by ESPN’s Derek Rae, Bayern Munich will be looking to extend Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting’s stay as the back-up to mega-star Robert Lewandowski.
According to kicker, the Bayern Munich bosses are happy with Choupo-Moting’s work as a substitute and think he can fill the role successfully again next season.
The same, however, cannot be said for Juventus-loanee Douglas Costa, who has not yet clicked during his second stint in Bavaria. Per the report, Costa will head back to Italy:
Kicker reporting while it’s unlikely Douglas Costa will return to Bayern on loan from Juve next term, Eric Choupo-Moting has a future. The decision makers are happy with his brief on pitch cameos & value him as an integrative, multilingual & convivial dressing room contributor.

The Choupo-Moting news is somewhat surprising, but only because it appears that Bayern Munich does not consider either Joshua Zirkzee (on loan to Parma) or Fiete Arp (Bayern Munich II) to be ready to take over that role next season.
With neither Arp nor Zirkzee are exactly seizing the position, the Bavarians might just feel more comfortable with a stable and reliable veteran to be Lewandowski’s understudy.
Anyway, Rae, whose commentary and coverage of the Bundesliga is top-notch, proved that he is “absolutely omnipotent” with that tweet. Is there anything he can’t do?
(While I’m not a FIFA junkie, I did watch my fair share of Bavarian FIFA Works episodes.)
