Bayern Munich marched to another big win in the Frauen Bundesliga, keeping their lead at the top of the table to five points. This week’s unfortunate victims were Werder Bremen, and Bayern wasted no time letting them know who was in charge to the tune of a 7-0 victory,
The star of the day was Lea Schüller. The 23-year-old notched two goals in the match giving her TEN goals scored in the last three matches for Bayern. She’s on an incredible run of form.
Bayern led 3-0 at halftime thanks to goals from Schüller (two) and a Lina Magull free kick. In the second half, Bayern were led by another Schüller goal in addition to goals from Klara Bühl, Carolin Simon (another free kick), and Marina Hegering.
“We were always on the move in the first half, especially on offense — lots of changing positions and good, direct play in small spaces,” head coach Jens Scheuer said. “That makes us happy, and now we head into the international break.”
Bayern XI: Benkarth - Simon, Hegering, Wenninger (63. Pollak), Glas (73. Ilestedt) - Zadrazil (73. Boye), Magull - Corley, Lohmann (45. Dallmann), Bühl (59. Rudelic) - Schüller
The win marks the fourth straight win for Bayern where they scored at least seven goals. It’s bonkers. The Bavarians beat SC Sand 8-0, Walddörfer in the Pokal 13-0, and Meppen 7-1 prior to today’s match. Bayern are just on an incredible roll and somehow look more impressive every time out.
Bayern keep their five point lead over Wolfsburg in the table and extend their goal difference to a wild 54 goals scored and two conceded (+52!) after only 14 games. At their current pace, Bayern will obliterate the Frauen Bundesliga record.
The women’s game will now head into the international break, but Bayern will be keeping close attention to the Champions League Round of 16 draw on Tuesday, February 16. They’ll learn their opponents for their next match when the clubs return from the break on March 3 or 4.
