It’s official! After Brazzo confirmed the signing on Friday, Bayern Munich have announced that they have signed Dayot Upamecano for next season. The RB Leipzig defender will join the team after the Bavarians pay his release clause, which becomes active this summer. The Frenchman has reportedly rejected teams like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, in order to facilitate his move to Munich.

Here is the official announcement in all of its glory!

Here’s a short excerpt from the announcement page:

Board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić: “We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern München. We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years.”

As far as Valentine’s Day gifts go, this is a pretty rad one. At just 22 years of age, Upamecano is set to become one of the key figures in Bayern’s new-look defense for the future. With David Alaba and possibly Jerome Boateng set to leave this summer, as well as the ever-reliable Javi Martinez also on his way out, signing the Frenchman means that Bayern will have completed their transition to a completely new defense in the last three or so years.

Upamecano also joins the ever-growing list of Frenchmen on the Munich roster, which will likely help him get callups to the National Team in the future. With players like Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard, Tanguy Nianzou, and Corentin Tolisso on the roster, he’s sure to feel at home in the Bayern dressing room.

Now that it’s been announced, we can finally relax and enjoy ourselves. While Hansi Flick probably isn’t happy about losing a couple of veteran defenders next summer, Brazzo and the board have done a good job securing Upamecano early and putting all worries to bed.

Servus, Dayot!
