Bayern Munich star defender Lucas Hernandez might have made his bones with Atletico Madrid and La Liga, but finds German football more “physical and intensive.”
“Football in Germany is more physical and intensive. That suits me. In Spain it’s about technique, there’s more possession and more passes. In Germany the games are end to end, you have to run more,” Hernandez told kicker (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia).
Hernandez also thinks Bayern Munich’s style of play is perfect for him.
“Bayern have significantly more possession than Atletico. I liked Atleti’s style too, but here it’s completely different. You have to be more precise, even in training. We stand high up the pitch, I like it here too,” Hernandez said.
All of that focus on possession, does not mean Hernandez has scaled down his aggressive style of play.
“I will not change it until the end of my career. That’s what my teammates expect from me,” Hernandez said. “I like to play as left center-back. That’s my ideal position where I always played in my youth. With Hansi Flick I played both left-back and left center-back. With (Julian) Nagelsmann I always play left center-back. I feel most comfortable there.”
