Bayern Munich and Germany great Lothar Matthäus seems convinced that Erling Haaland will leave Borussia Dortmund.
In looking at Haaland’s potential destinations, Matthäus thinks the Norwegian would be a better fit at Real Madrid than Bayern Munich.
“Haaland may end up at Bayern after (Robert) Lewandowski,” Matthäus said to Marca. “But not alongside him. “Haaland would fit in better at Real Madrid with (Kylian) Mbappe.”
Securing both Mbappe and Haaland would be a huge swing for Los Blancos, who are desperately seeking to unload high-priced — in terms of salary — veterans like Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale.
Bale’s contract ends in 2022, so Real Madrid would have to unload him this winter, while finding a trade partner for Hazard has proven to be an extremely difficult task. Hazard’s deal runs through 2024, which makes him a tough sell.
Matthäus also noted that Haaland would bring some personality to Real Madrid, a trait that has been lacking since Sergio Ramos left the club.
