On This Day in History: Bayern Munich crushes Arsenal 5-1 at the Allianz Arena

Bayern Munich have made quite the hobby out of beating up on London-based clubs over the years. Out of recent memory, Bayern crushed Tottenham 7-2 in London and Bayern cruised past Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate in the 2019/20 Champions League. But above all, Bayern have a special passion for beating Arsenal.

On this day in 2015, Bayern Munich trashed Arsenal 5-1 at the Allianz Arena. This was such a major victory at the time as Arsenal were a far more respected club back then and the scoreline produces some major headlines.

Bayern Munich enjoyed beating Arsenal so much that Bayern’s social media team even began to toy with Arsenal of their impending doom to face Bayern in the Champions League. Arsenal faced Bayern in the 2013/14 Group Stage, 2015/16 Group Stage, 2016/17 Round of 16.

In 2017 when they faced Arsenal in the Round of 16, Bayern Munich beat Arsenal twice to advanced a staggering 10-2 on aggregate. Arsenal now must surely have had nightmares of facing the Bavarian giants.

Sadly, Arsenal’s omission from the Champions League in recent years has made this hobby a thing of the past, but hopefully, we see the two clubs back in action sometime soon. Bayern’s strength has only grown since then and it would be thrilling to see what scoreline could possibly come out of this matchup these days.
