Bayern Munich will have to be without Dayot Upamecano in their next Champions League match due to a suspension. That means the French centerback is going to miss the club’s next match against Dynamo Kyiv in three weeks.
Upamecano picked up a yellow card during Tuesday’s victory over Benfica, giving him three in the first four matches. That’s the threshold for an accumulation suspension in the Champions League.
There are several options for head coach Julian Nagelsmann as he could deploy any combination of Lucas Hernandez, Niklas Süle, Tanguy Nianzou, and Benjamin Pavard. Against Benfica, Nagelsmann went with Upamecano and Nianzou against Benfica, but his hands were kind of forced due to slight injuries to Hernandez and Süle.
Speaking of Hernandez, he is sitting on two yellow cards, so he will be suspended following his next yellow card as well. With Bayern having already secured a spot in the knockout stage, one would almost hope that Hernandez picks up a yellow against Kyiv to miss the worthless Barcelona match.
