Lionel Messi says he would vote for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in the 2021 Ballon d’Or

G.O.A.T. footballer and Lewandowski’s only realistic rival for the award, Messi thinks that titles will ‘carry a lot of weight’ while deciding the winner.

In an interview with France Football, Barcelona legend and Paris Saint-Germain’s marquee signing Lionel Messi revealed the candidates he will be voting for, for this year’s Ballon d’Or award. Although the 34-year-old gave preference to his club teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Messi did go on to acknowledge the impressive campaign Lewandowski has had so far.

“Of course I have two players in my team that I would vote for: Ney and Kylian”, said the 34-year old (as captured by Sport Bild). “After that, there are players at individual level who have played a great season, like Lewandowski. There is also Karim Benzema, who has been outstanding.”

The Argentina captain, however, thinks that titles could be the deciding factor in determining the winner.

“At the end of the day, the titles also carry a lot of weight, whether you won the Champions League, the European Championships, or the Copa America,” claimed Messi.

While winning the Copa America was probably a momentous accomplishment for Messi, it remains to be seen if one should really consider achievements at international football level while voting for Ballon d’Or.
