Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich donned the captain’s armband for Germany in its 2-1 victory over Romania on Friday and provided his normal doses of intensity and leadership.
Recognizing that his squad was not necessarily operating at an optimal level, Kimmich credited the team’s passion and dedication for helping pull out a victory. The 26-year-old gave a nod to the fans for their support during the match.
“It was close. We put a lot of passion and dedication into this game. We really gave everything we had and in the end we were rewarded. After we fell behind, we took a lot of risks and wanted to equalize as soon as possible,” said Kimmich (as captured by Tz). “It was important to play with security and not to lose the ball. On the pitch, it felt good that everyone in the stands was behind us and pushed us.”
Germany will now take on North Macedonia on Monday at 2:45PM EST.
