In a break from the norm of the past few winters, FC Bayern Munich’s head trainer Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that the team will not be traveling to Doha for their regular winter break training camp.
Instead, FC Bayern will remain in Munich for preparations for the second half of the season as reported by Bild. Among the reasons given is the heavily congested schedule for FC Bayern as well as a shortened winter pause.
This move has furthermore stunned the Qatari, who in a World Cup year, were expecting the arrival of some of their biggest stars in use as advertisement for their upcoming 2022 World Cup.
This is a good move for a number of reasons. From the start, Bayern’s agreement with Doha and Qatar Airways have been the source of intense scrutiny by not only ourselves at BFW but by various fan groups. Secondly, the added pressures of international travel during the winter break had sometimes exacerbated an already exhausted team so staying locally in Munich should have the extra benefit of being familiar layouts and location.
