Bayern Munich defense Lucas Hernandez has spent most of his time playing center-back this season, but the versatile Frenchman often toils away as a left-back for his country.
France national team manager Didier Deschamps could be toying with the idea of sliding Hernandez inside, however, which could open up a spot on the left defensive flank.
So, who would fill that void? One of the possibilities is Hernandez’s brother Theo per Deschamps.
“Lucas has the ability to play center-back or left-back, Theo is a left-back,” said Deschamps (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “They can play together. Even though Lucas has done well at left-back for us, he’s a natural center-back and is playing there often for Bayern now.”
It remains to be seen if Deschamps actually follows through on the thought to push Lucas Hernandez inside. It is quite conceivable that Deschamps opts to keep Lucas Hernandez out in a wide position defensively if he thinks that will allow him to put a better XI on the pitch.
