Bayern Munich II gave up a two-goal lead, but a late Armindo Sieb tally gave the Bayern reserves a 3-2 victory over Augsburg II.

“We are going home today as the sole front runner and we can be very satisfied with that,” head coach Martin Demichelis said. “But we were 2-0 up today and it’s not the first time that our opponents have come back. They even scored two easy goals against us today. We have to talk to the guys about that and we have to improve that.”

Match Highlights

It was another quick start for Bayern II, as Gabriel Vidovic scored in the 9th minute. Oliver Batista Meier made it 2-0 from the spot in the 29th minute after Nemanja Motika was fouled in the area.

Unfortunately for Bayern II, Augsburg II quickly turned the tables at the start of the second half and equalized it by the 49th minute.

Then, in the 85th minute, Sieb’s diving header snuck in at the far post to give Bayern II the 3-2 win.

Squad

Timo Kern returned to the starting lineup for Bayern II in place of Emilian Metu. Demichelis went with his familiar backline of Angelo Brückner, Jamie Lawrence, Bright Arrey-Mbi, and Taylor Booth. Maximilian Welzmüller replace Booth at halftime thanks to an injury.

There’s some wild times with the Bayern II goalkeeping corps. Thanks to Sven Ulreich’s injury, Christian Früchtl is with the first team. With Lukas Schneller (injury), Jakob Mayer (injury) and Manuel Kainz (ill) all out, 17 year old Tom Hülsmann was called up from the club’s U-19 team and given his first start.

For a backup in this match, the club turned to former Bayern II goalkeeper and current Bayern Frauen goalkeeping Michael Netolitzky! The 27 year old retired in the summer of 2020 due to persistent injuries but had to put on the uniform once again. Thankfully, he wasn’t needed in this one.

Bayern XI: Hülsmann - Brückner, Arrey-Mbi, Lawrence, Booth (45. Welzmüller) - Tillman, Aydin, Kern (67. Scott) - Motika (77. Metu), Vidović, Batista-Meier (67. Sieb)

Table and Next Match

Bayern II end the match day in first place ahead of SpVgg Bayreuth. The two sides are level on points with 44, but Bayern II hold the advantage thanks to a far superior goal difference (+41 vs +27). The two teams have built a 9 point lead over third place FC Schweinfurt.

It’s another multi-match week for Bayern II heading into the international break. On Wednesday, Bayern II will host TSV Aubstadt before traveling to face SV Heimstetten next Sunday.
