Interim Bayern Munich manager Dino Toppmöller knew it was time for a squad rotation and after consulting with homebound head coach Julian Nagelsmann, it was decided that midfielder Corentin Tolisso and defender Josip Stanisic would get a starting nod against Union for the team’s Bundesliga tilt.
“Coco has trained outstandingly, he has a super physical presence. We know what to expect. That is why we were counting on him today,” Toppmöller said (as captured by Tz).
As for Stanisic, Toppmöller explained that the change was not indicative of a poor assessment of Pavard.
“Benji has done well in the last few weeks. We are glad we have him, but today we went with Josip Stanisic. We don’t want to criticize anyone, we lose together and we win together,” Toppmöller said.
Tolisso was a non-factor for the most part, while Stanisic struggled. It could be said that both players are trying to shake off some rust, but solving the rotation puzzle and how to get the best out of each player is something the coaching staff will have to solve soon.
