If you thought Bayern Munich’s disastrous DFB-Pokal match against Borussia Monchengladbach couldn’t get worse — it could. In the second half, Leon Goretzka remained on the ground after a tackle.
Bayern’s midfielder was later subbed out in the 64th minute and couldn’t continue the match. Although it wasn’t certain what type of injury Goretzka suffered, it seems that he’s going to be ready for Bayern’s match against Union Berlin.
Dino Toppmöller, Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant, commented after the Pokal match: “Leon took a blow to his Achilles and had an open wound on his heel. It shouldn’t be anything too dramatic with regards to Saturday.”
It remains to be seen how Julian Nagelsmann will line up this weekend against Union Berlin. Will he decide to rest some players, for example, the defenders, who have played abysmally as a collective. Or, maybe Nagelsmann will try to assemble the strongest possible lineup and try to make it right with a dominant win. Surely, he can count on Goretzka!
