Could Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski finally get the recognition he deserves?

Reports have circulated that the winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or was decided earlier this week. With rumors already swirling around who the winner might be, an allegedly leaked list is causing quite a stir. This list is making rounds around the internet, but there is no confirmation whether this is the legitimate document from France Football.

Despite the uncertain validity of the document, Lewandowski would be awarded the Ballon d’Or for the first time in his career. Following the Polish striker is Lionel Messi, who would miss out on the seventh Ballon d’Or of his career.

Assuming this list is real, the voting looks to be very tight this year with three players with more than 500 points (Lewandowski, Messi, Benzema). Although this list is by no means confirmed, Lewandowski remains the favorite for the award after his record-breaking 41 Bundesliga goals last season.

Many fans of the sport would be upset with this result, with the selection of Lewandowski over Messi, although Messi’s mediocre start with Paris Saint-Germain is sure to be a large factor in a possible Lewandowski win.

The Ballon d’Or will be awarded in Paris on November 29th, so we will have to wait until then to see if this list is real. Bayern Munich fans will surely be hoping this list is real as this would be the first Ballon d’Or winner from Bayern since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. Lewandowski would also be the first Polish player to ever win this award.

It should also be noted that there is another image being leaked as well:

There have been additional leaked lists, but they have even less merit so all we can do at this point is speculate. With Lewandowski robbed of the Ballon d’Or in 2020, it would be devastating to see him once again miss the recognition he deserves. Do you think these leaks have any merit? Do you think Lewandowski should win this year’s award?
