Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller can only “apologize” to fans after Wednesday’s 5-0 loss in the DFB-Pokal to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Müller lamented the fact that Bayern Munich never got into gear and remained flat for the entirety of the contest.
“We never found the point in the entire game where the Bayern engine kicked in. We can only apologize to the fans and apologize to the Gladbachers,” Müller said to Sky (as captured by FCBayern.com). “With the exception of (Manuel) Neuer, it was a catastrophic performance from us. I haven’t experienced anything like that either. It’s difficult to grasp. We have to put it behind us now, because we’ll continue on Saturday.”
Interim manager Dino Toppmöller was sorry to have disappointed fans.
“We were a yard too slow every time. It’s hard to accept. It was a well-deserved win for Gladbach. We planned to do a lot of things, but then we couldn’t put them into practice. To be 3-0 down after 20 minutes is a disaster, of course,” Toppmöller said. “It was an absolutely wasted day and we’re sorry that we disappointed our fans so much. We have to shake ourselves now and show a reaction on Saturday.”
