Bayern Munich legend Philipp Lahm often finds himself in an awkward situation.
While he might feel some allegiances to his old club, the former Bayern and Germany great knows that the Bavarians losing can actually be good for the entertainment value of the Bundesliga.
“It’s nice when Bayern drops points so that the tension stays in,” Lahm recently told Sport Bild.
Lahm, however, feels no such empathy when it comes to the Champions League, where he feels like Bayern Munich should be among the favorites. Lahm knows that the best team does not always win in European play, though. Some outside factors often play a role in deciding the victor.
“Bayern always has good opportunities, but there are opponents, a team’s form, or maybe even a referee’s decision — you never know,” Lahm said. “We all agree that you have to knock out FC Bayern in this competition.”
So far, so good for the Bavarians in the Bundesliga and the Champions League — even if it might seem a little boring to Lahm.
