Bad news for Bayern Munich fans (again!). Following his sudden absence from the sidelines in the club’s 4-0 away win over Benfica, coach Julian Nagelsmann has officially tested positive for Covid-19. Per the club’s official channels, the 34-year-old coach will return to Munich separately from the team and go into domestic isolation there.

Here’s the official report on the club’s Twitter:

No exact word on whether anyone else has been infected on the team. Leon Goretzka, who also missed the game due to the “flu” might be a candidate, but it’s hard to speculate. All the players and the coaching staff should get tested when they land in Munich, and whoever tests positive will go into quarantine just like the coach. Hopefully, that number ends up being low to nonexistent.

At the very least, given that Nagelsmann did the responsible thing and got vaccinated, he should avoid the harsher symptoms of the disease. He can still coach the team from quarantine, by the power of MODERN TECHNOLOGY. We hope he has a speedy recovery. Bayern’s been absolutely rolling teams over this season, and it would be a shame to see that end because the coach got sick.
