Bayern Munich took more than an hour to break through, but Leroy Sane’s first goal in the 70th minute started on onslaught of Bayern of four goals. Sane got his brace in the 84th minute, bookending the 14-minute parade of goals. After the match in Lisbon, Sane spoke with DAZN about how the match went (as recorded by Twitter page @iMiaSanMia).

“We played a very good game. Even the first half was good, but we missed something upfront. I’m very happy with the performance,” Sane said.

Sane also spoke about the factors that made the match even more challenging for Bayern. With adversities such as a sick coach and VAR disallowing goals, Bayern still found a way to get three points on the road in the Champions League: “The coach prepared us very well for the game, like he always does. We knew Benfica would be aggressive in duels and we had to be patient. We were unlucky with the disallowed goals, but in the end the win was deserved.”

Sane also added an assist to his two goals, bringing his tally to three apiece in three Champions League matches so far this season. It is interesting to note that Sane only has two goals and three assists in eight Bundesliga matches. Let’s hope there are many more of each to come in all competitions.
