Former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng didn’t see his contract renewed after almost ten years at the Bavarian capital. It took him a few months to find a new club, but in the last days of the transfer window, Jerome Boateng was Lyon’s new addition.

A couple of days ago, Lyon met Monaco, and Boateng finally managed to play full 90 minutes for the first time since arriving at his new club. Lyon won the match at 2-0, and Boateng was praised for his defensive efforts.

L’Equipe (via Sport Bild) described his performance as a cornerstone for Lyon’s win against Niko Kovač’s players — “An imposing physique paired with a technique set in stone.”

Lyon’s assistant coach, Claudio Caçapa, also spoke highly of the defender: “Just by his name and attitude, he’s already given us a lot. Because he leads by example, he is the first to show up for training and the last to leave. Boateng talks a lot with the players on the pitch and exudes an air of calmness.”

Jerome was also happy with his performances and had this to say: “I’m happy because I feel that my body is getting more and more into shape. I’m really, really happy here. I’m making progress, but I’m not at 100 percent yet.”

If Boateng keeps performing like this, Hansi Flick might call him up for the national games.
