When Bayern Munich takes the pitch in Lisbon against Benfica, what is awaiting the Bavarians will not be a surprise.
Both manager Julian Nagelsmann and defender Dayot Upamecano are expecting the Portuguese side to be troublesome.
“There are no small teams in the Champions League. A win is never guaranteed. We won’t lose sight of our objectives and we will stay focused. We will give everything to win,” said Upamecano, as captured by the @FCBayernEN Twitter account. “They’re an experienced team. They’re playing at home and obviously want the points. We want and need to be prepared. We cannot concede any goals, that’s the most important thing.”
Nagelsmann echoed Upamecano’s sentiment.
“I’m expecting a typically Portuguese side that likes to play with the ball. For us it will be all about ratifying the good football we played against Leverkusen,” Nagelsmann said. “Obviously there is enough mutual respect. Still, we need to assert ourselves and get into a good position for fighting to reach the knockouts.”
