Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder and current Benfica starter Julian Weigl said his squad is prepared to give its Champions League opponent a “hot fight” in Lisbon.
Weigl, who is intimately familiar with the Bavarians after years of Bundesliga skirmishes, thinks his team has “a very good chance”, citing Benfica’s e3-0 dismantling of FC Barcelona of what his club is capable of.
“It’s relatively difficult to score goals against us. We have a very good defense, but we also score the most goals in the domestic league. We are not easy to calculate, we can switch quickly,” said Weigl. “You should always have your antennas extended against us. In addition, the atmosphere will be uncomfortable for them, and in turn it will give us a push.”
Weigl, who at one time was on a trajectory to play for the German national team, still hopes to get the call.
“I know the competition is tough. But I have the confidence,” Weigl said.
