It looks like Davies has a minor hamstring issue — he’ll have to miss the Champions League.

UPDATE: 8:35AM EST — Davies injury not serious, Goretzka sick

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann addressed the absences of Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka from the team’s training today. While Davies will, indeed, miss the Benfica game, his injury is not considered serious. More than anything, Davies needs a few days of rest.

As for Goretzka, the midfielder is sick with a cold:

Things were going too well, I suppose. After a 5-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen, you just knew that some kind of misfortune would befall Bayern Munich this week. Well, it’s happened — according to Bild, Alphonso Davies will miss the Bavarians’ upcoming Champions League away game versus Benfica tomorrow. The official confirmation should be coming in shortly.

The Canadian was already a doubt for the game, after being pulled out of Sunday’s fixture within 40 minutes of play time. Julian Nagelsmann will hope that this injury — said to be a hamstring issue — is relatively minor and Davies won’t have to miss too many games. However, losing him for the Benfica match is a huge blow for the team, given how important the Canadian is to the setup.

Who can replace Davies? For now, it’s probably a choice between Lucas Hernandez and Omar Richards. Omar is probably not ready for the Champions league yet, which means the Frenchman should get the nod over him. Per reports, Lucas is set to be available tomorrow despite his ongoing legal issues. Nagelsmann is supposedly counting on the Frenchman.

We’ll keep you updated as more of this story breaks. Nagelsmann should have his coach’s press conference later today, where he should reveal more details.
