After Bayern Munich beat up Bayer Leverkusen 5-1, midfielder Joshua Kimmich was asked about his curious omission from the Ballon d’Or list of finalists.
In typical Kimmich fashion, the Germany international reacted as if he could not care any less about being left off of the list. In fact, Kimmich gave his rationale for why such a thing does not really matter to him anyway.
“I’m not surprised,” Kimmich said to told Sport 1. “I’m not that great of an individual player. For me it is important that the team wins. I can only shine myself if we win. You’re always dependent on the team. I’m happy about a game like today and don’t worry about a shortlist.”
While Kimmich might not care about his status on the list, many fans were left dumbfounded as there were many far inferior players listed. Surely, a player of Kimmich’s talent and also one who performs at such a high level on a consistent basis should have been included.
