So Benjamin Pavard spoke to French news outlet Canal Football Club and dug himself a hole so deep you could fill ten Niklas Sules inside it. This time, we’re focusing less on his statements about the French national team and more on Bayern Munich, because Pavard had some interesting revelations on that front as well.
Despite playing in the Bundesliga for over five years now, it turns out that Benjamin Pavard still isn’t comfortable with speaking the local language. “I speak it [German] badly,” said the Frenchman (via Goal). “I understand everything, but it’s difficult.”
But then ... how does he communicate with his teammates? Well, the answer is quite simple. “We only speak French at Bayern,” said Pavard. “How many French people are here? I don’t know how many French people there are, but even Serge Gnabry speaks French, and there’s Choupo too. There are a lot of players who speak French, so it’s a bit complicated.”
He’s got a fair point, Bayern’s French contingent is almost as big as the German one. What’s surprising is the fact that even Serge Gnabry speaks the language. Did he learn it in school, or did he pick it up when he was at Arsenal? In any case, for the time being, Pavard’s language weakness doesn’t seem to be affecting him negatively. However, he probably should devote a little more time to mastering German. It can only help integrate him into his new home.
