Bayern Munich and Germany legend Philipp Lahm knows a thing or two about being the identity of a club.
Not enough players really achieve that status like Lahm or Thomas Müller these days, but the former captain thinks that both Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka could be on their way to achieving just that for Bayern Munich.
“Identification with the club is important. I can’t do that well if I move on every two years,” Lahm recently told Sport Bild. “Leon and Joshua extended because they know that they can shape a generation here.”
Kimmich and Goretzka are certainly key figures on the squad and two players who have the potential to not only have long-term careers at the club, but to be impact figure, who affect change on and off the pitch. The duo could easily find themselves heading down the same road as players like Lahm and Müller, who have seemingly become synonymous with the club.
