Bayern Munich Alumni: Bastian Schweinsteiger almost joined Inter Milan in 2008

Thanks to a transfer that happened elsewhere in Europe, the Bayern legend ended up staying in Munich.

If it weren’t for the turn of events that made possible a transfer between Arsenal FC and FC Barcelona, the career of Bastian Schweinsteiger at Bayern Munich would’ve been cut short very early. The World Cup winner revealed earlier this week how the Bundesliga champions had plans to build a squad that did not include him back in 2008.

Under head coach Jürgen Klinsmann, the club wanted to bring Arsenal star Alexander Hleb to Munich to replace Schweinsteiger. Barcelona, though, came into the picture and snatched the Belarus star from the hands of Klinsmann and co., which resulted in the treble winner staying and creating history at Bayern.

The alumni revealed that he was all set to join Inter Milan before Hleb’s transfer to Barcelona changed the situation at Bayern. “My suitcases were already packed for Milan. Jürgen Klinsmann was the coach and FC Bayern München wanted another player called Alexander Hleb”, said Schweinsteiger.

Crazy to think how things would’ve turned out if the move to Italy had actually happened.
