When asked recently about the competition within the Germany squad, former Bayern Munich boss and current German national team manager Hansi Flick was open about what he expects from his roster.
Specifically, Flick was about the attacking midfielder position, where he could roll out any number of players including Thomas Müller, Marco Reus, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Florian Neuhaus, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Leon Goreztka from this particular round of call-ups, without really having to stretch the responsibilities of the position.
Flick acknowledged that the team’s depth at the #10 is incredible, but said that he expects every position to have a number of competitors and strong depth options.
“That doesn’t just apply to the ten position,” Flick told the DFB website. “We have filled many positions well. It is important that we can also improve on that. The quality in the team is very high.”
Flick will be tasked in the coming weeks to narrow down those options and build his official depth chart for the 2022 World Cup.
