Hello everyone! HAPPY 2021! We have our immediate post-match wrap up of Bayern Munich’s thrilling 5-2 win over Mainz at the Allianz Arena to start off the new year and keep Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table, two points clear of RB Leipzig.
There really isn’t a better cliché to describe this match other than it was a tale of two halves, because in all honestly, the first half was not great from Bayern and the second half was great. After going 2-0 down in the first half, Hansi Flick made two important halftime substations in bringing on Niklas Sule and Leon Goretzka for Jerome Boateng and Benjamin Pavard. The changes moved Joshua Kimmich back to right back and Bayern looked a completely revitalized side in the second half. Goals from Kimmich, Leroy Sane, Sule, and a brace from Robert Lewandowski sealed the deal and canceled out what was a lackluster first 45 minutes on all accounts.
