With Jerome Boateng’s future uncertain at Bayern Munich, there is at least one member of the squad, who can’t bare to think of what life would be like without the veteran defender: Thomas Müller.
Müller, the star of Sunday’s 4-0 win over Schalke 04, wants the club to extend Boateng’s contract, which expires in June.
“He stays here! He still has a contract until summer,” Müller said after the game (as captured by Tz). “By signing the right paper, he’ll stay. He’s been by my side for a while, so there’s no harm in him looking out for me a little longer.”
Like quite a few players, Boateng has experienced a career resurgence under Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick. With David Alaba looking more and more like he will leave Germany, Boateng’s experience and presence on the backline could be a nice bridge from the old to the new if he and the club can agree on equitable terms.
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic would not address Boateng’s contractual status after the game other than to say the defender’s future will be decided after a discussion between Salihamidzic and Flick.
“We have said everything, we will sit down with him in due course and make a fair decision,” Salihamidzic said (as captured by Tz). “Hansi Flick and I talk normally and make decisions together.”
