Schalke actually played well, but Bayern Munich was, without any doubt, a far better team and deservedly won. Without further ado, here are the awards.
Jersey swap: Ralf Fahrmann
Schalke’s goalkeeper was probably one of the best opposing players this evening. The scoreline probably does not give credit to Fahrmann, but he had a good match. He denied Serge Gnabry a sitter and also had some stunning saves. He also made an error that lead to Bayern’s fourth goal, but who can blame him?
Der Bomber: Robert Lewandowski
I’m always amazed by Robert Lewandowski. Obviously, he can score at will most days, but the way he plays really benefits the team. Bayern’s #9 is always looking for space to draw the defenders to him, or he goes out wide and helps spread the attack. He often helps out his team by making some crucial build-up play. Tonight Lewy managed to score a peach of a goal after a stunning assist by Joshua Kimmich. The Pole might just break Gerd Muller’s goal record.
Fussballgott: Thomas Muller
Phenomenal match from the Raumdeuter, definitely a worthy candidate for the Meister of the Match award. When Lewandowski is guarded well, Muller uses the free space to roam around the field, and that’s what he did today. He was a constant threat to Fahrmann’s goal, but he also remained a nuisance for Schalke’s midfield, as he often intercepted passes and put pressure on them. Thomas Muller finished the match with two goals and helped his team to extend the lead on top of the table!
Der Kaiser: Manuel Neuer
Another masterclass performance from Bayern Munich’s captain, who managed to keep a second clean sheet in a row! The final score was 4:0 for Bayern, but it was thanks to this man that Schalke didn’t score a goal. In the first half, Neuer made some crucial saves and kept Schalke’s attackers at bay. As the game progressed, Neuer continued in the same manner. Nearing the end, Schalke made a few decent shots, but they all went wide. But, if any of them were on target, Neuer was ready to catch the ball.
Meister of the Match: Joshua Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich is back at his best! What a match from Joshua Kimmich that was. Three assists tonight, and every assist was a beautiful one. But even without his massive attacking contributions, he bossed the midfield today. He was everywhere on the pitch, and it was impressive. He even had some decent chances in Fahrmann’s box, but Kabak made a crucial clearance. It’s important for Kimmich’s confidence that he managed such a performance tonight, especially after recovering from an unpleasant knee injury.
