Report: Bayern Munich linked with Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele (again)

The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire soon — Bayern would be interested in a reasonable fee.

This one’s a blast from the past. Bayern Munich are once again linked with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, after the Frenchman was already subject of tonnes of speculation back in the summer of 2019. Back then, the reports were clearly overblown and the Bavarians never made a move to sign him. Now, apparently, the situation has changed a little.

According to a report by Sport, Barcelona are either going to extend Dembele’s contract this season, or sell him outright. The Catalans are desperate for cash, and cannot afford to lose a player of Dembele’s caliber for free. The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022, and he has so far not started negotiations for a contract extension.

Given that the player enters his final year this summer, he could be available for a reasonable price. However, according to the report, clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus, and Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of the 23-year-old winger. Meanwhile, Dembele himself has given no indications of leaving Barcelona, so the idea that he’ll leave now isn’t exactly certain.

For now, this seems like another example of a foreign news outlet using Bayern’s name to gain some traction. Dembele would certainly suit Bayern, since he’s young, Bundesliga proven, and fits a set role on the team — but he has a number of drawbacks, the biggest of which is his injury record. We did an analysis of his flaws a while back, so check that out if you’re interested. That’s all for now.
