Robert Lewandowski provided the lone goal in Bayern Munich’s uneven 1-0 victory over FC Augsburg and was integral to the squad’s offensive effort before being subbed off early in the 67th minute.
Hansi Flick, however, had every reason to take Lewandowski out of the game as the 32-year-old striker was experiencing muscular issues earlier in the day.
“He already felt something in his muscles this morning, but said he could manage it well,” Fick said (per FCBayern.com). “He was supposed to let us know if he couldn’t go on, and that’s what he did. It was a precaution because Robert is very important for us. We didn’t want to take any risks there.”
The squad noticeably scuffled after Lewandowski departed, which further illustrates just how valuable he is — and also justifies why Flick is being extra-cautious.
With his goal against Die Fuggerstädter, Lewandowski now has an unbelievable 22 goals in 17 games.
