In a report by Florian Plettenberg of Sport1, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel isn’t exactly happy with his lack of minutes at the club. In specific terms, his camp is “astonished” that he hasn’t played more games. Either they’re the most gullible people on earth, or someone’s been breaking promises.
The real deal breaker is the fact that he didn’t even start the dead rubber game against Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League. The player’s camp have begun asking questions about what’s going on — how they haven’t noticed that Manuel Neuer exists is a mystery.
Honestly, it’s no surprise that Nubel isn’t getting minutes. Neuer made it clear long ago that he was never going to accept a reduced role this season, and Hansi was never going to bench his captain. The only chance Nubel had is if Neuer had a collapse in form like he did in the 2018/19 season, but that didn’t happen. So he’s stuck sitting behind the best goalkeeper in the world, and the situation isn’t likely to change any time soon.
Honestly, this transfer made little sense from the get go. We were always told that Nubel would be given minutes from Neuer, but anyone who knew how things work at Bayern knew that the solution would never work. Now, the question is, where next for Nubel? Does he stay, or will he go on loan somewhere? Let’s hope, for his sake, his career doesn’t hit a brick wall here at Bayern.
Update
Nubel’s agent has responded to recent reports.

Nubel agent Stefan Backs: I’m in regular contact with Hasan Salihamidžić, everything is fine. The whole thing is planned as a long-term project, hence the contract until 2025.
So I guess everything’s fine then?
