Bayern Munich kicked off the 2020/21 Frauen Bundesliga season in style with a crushing 6-0 defeat of SC Sand. Four players signed over the summer and a player brought up from Bayern II found the back of the net for the Bavarians. It was a great day and great start to the season.
During pregame warmups, players wore shirts with “TEAM BROVI” on them in recognition of Jovana Damnjanovic who tore her ACL during the Champions League Quarterfinal against Lyon.
Heute sind wir #TeamBrovi!

Bayern jumped out to a fast lead in the 2nd minute. Newcomer Viviane Asseyi headed a free kick from Lina Magull into the back of the net past former Bayern goalkeeper Jacintha Weimar in the Sand goal. Then, a few minutes later, it was 2-0 when Sydney Lohmann headed in a Magull corner kick.
The Bavarians’ third goal came in the 55th minute when Sand’s defense fell asleep on another Magull corner kick allowing Marina Hegering to knock the ball in off the post. In the 74th minute, Kristin Demann slammed home Bayern’s fourth of the match following another corner kick from Magull.
Another newcomer, Sarah Zadrazil, smashed home a sensational goal for Bayern’s fifth in the 82nd minute. After Linda Dallmann lost the ball outside the top of the penalty area, Zadrazil struck a first-time ball into the far corner in a definite Goal of the Year contender.
With three minutes left in the match, Lea Schüller added Bayern’s 6th when she headed home a deep cross from Carina Wenninger.
