Bayern Munich’s hunt for Germany’s next great attacking midfielder is now reportedly focused on Hertha Berlin’s Lazar Samardžić. Samardžić, who has stirred up a lot of interest with Die alte Dame, is a Serbian-born Germany youth international who has tantalized Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona, and AC Milan among others.

Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio reports that RB Leipzig is applying the most pressure for an acquisition, but Bayern Munich is also doing some silent-assassin work in the background in hopes of getting a deal done.

So what is there to like about Samardžić? A lot it seems.

Just 18 years old, Samardžić has built a reputation for aggressiveness in taking on defenders with his footwork and skills. Below is an Instagram post showing Samardžić finishing off the last goal of a hat trick:

Bundesliga.com compared Samardžić to Kai Havertz, but the youngster still has some work to do in building up his slight 6’ ft, 150 lb physique, while also with improving his defensive skills, which 90min.com described as a “major burden” in Hertha Berlin’s 4-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt back in June. Samardžić was subbed on and subsequently subbed off just 21 minutes later in a terrible, brief appearance for Die Alte Dame.

Like some other young midfielders with silky footwork we know (*cough* Michaël Cuisance *cough*), Samardžić appears to have a bit of that flamboyance off the field that suits his skill-set on it:

Anyway, Samardžić likely needs some refining to his overall game, which could make him a potential Bayern Munich II prospect at this stage. Would the youngster make a move for a second team position when there is likely a reserve role on some club’s first team available? I guess we’ll soon find out.

If you want to dive a little deeper into Samardžić, here is a YouTube video by “miroP10 - The Best Football Talents” detailing some of the youngster’s skill:
