Per new information from Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg, it appears that Bayern Munich is interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion right-back Tariq Lamptey from the Premier League. It’s well known that Hansi Flick would like to have a backup right back for Benjamin Pavard, and Lamptey fits this profile and could be prove to be decent value. Per Plettenberg, the Bavarians have already made contact. Brighton would be asking around €25m for Lamptey, but Bayern only want to spend around €15 for him, so there will have to be some negotiating if a deal were to take place.
❗️New candidate for #FCBayern revealed: According to my information the club is interested in right-back Tariq Lamptey (19) and have already asked for him. @OfficialBHAFC expects up to €25m. FCB should be willing to pay around €15m. #BHAFC @SPORT1 : @Transfermarkt pic.twitter.com/ihDaA0xZ1u

A product of Chelsea’s youth academy, Lamptey moved to Brighton last January and broke through into the Seagull’s first team after “Project Restart” in the Premier League following the break in play due to the coronavirus. He was also heavily scouted by both RB Leipzig and OGC Nice earlier in his career in Chelsea’s youth teams and was almost signed by both clubs at different times.
Before Lamptey broke through, Martín Montoya had been Graham Potter’s preferred starting right back as well as Ezequiel Scheletto on occasion. However, after impressing in a 2-1 win over Arsenal last December followed by two strong outings in the FA Cup, Potter started to give Lamptey more opportunities, which inevitably caused Brighton to allow Montaya to leave to club and join Real Betis.
Lamptey has started all three of Brighton’s Premier League matches so far this season and he’s looked bright (no pun intended). He’s pacey, explosive, dynamically gifted, and has sound positional and tactical awareness. If Bayern is able to negotiate a fair price down from €25m, he could prove to be a great value signing and add necessary depth to the right-back position for Hansi Flick.
