Today was a great day for FC Bayern fans as a result of today’s fixtures. Some key title-contenders dropped points to bottom-half clubs that could surely come back to bite them in this season’s conclusion.
Augsburg shocked the young Dortmund team 2-0 at the WWK Arena, placing themselves as the number one seed in the Bundesliga (for now)! This is also the first time that Augsburg has ever won both of their opening fixtures in the Bundesliga. So congrats to them. Danke Augsburg! On the other hand, some Dortmund fans are calling for Favre to be sacked in hopes of avoiding another season below expectations.
Mönchengladbach had a particularly unimpressive day as well. They drew Union Berlin 1-1 at home after Nico Schlotterbeck got a late equalizer for Union. They now start the season with just a point in their first two fixtures.

RB Leipzig, another contender, had to settle for a single point in a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. That leaves Leipzig tied in second place with Eintracht Frankfurt on 4 points.
Augsburg currently sit alone at the top of the table with 6 points, but it is Bayern’s spot to take pending on tomorrow’s result against Hoffenheim. Bayern remain the clear favourite for this year’s title, but a developing Dortmund core look to challenge the Bavarian giants this year. Will experience and grit trump young talent for the ninth year in a row? We still have plenty of time to find out.
